It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Marshall Eagles had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They snuck past the Panthers with a 51-47 win. The win was nothing new for Marshall as they're now sitting on seven straight.
Marshall got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Destiny Ihiaso out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Madelyn Degooyer was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
When it comes to explaining why Corona lost, one person who can't be blamed is Fia Liaga. Despite the final result, she scored 24 points along with five assists and three steals. Liaga is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Liaga, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Marshall has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Corona, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-14 record this season.
Marshall will face off against Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Marshall is coming into the game with four straight wins on the road, so Canyon is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Corona does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
