Lakewood is 9-1 against Union since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Lakewood Leopards will head out on the road to challenge the Union Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Lakewood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Friday.
Lakewood scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lejeune 58-16 on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-4.
Honestee William was the offensive standout of the match as she scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Kimora Corbett, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Union posted their closest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Clinton out 49-47. The victory was just what Union needed coming off of a 61-41 defeat in their prior matchup.
Ariyona Spearman was her usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zadariyah Faison, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Lakewood and bumps their season record up to 3-5. As for Union, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Lakewood have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 21.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Union, though, as they've been averaging only 24.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Lakewood ended up a good deal behind Union when the teams last played back in February of 2023, losing 58-39. Can Lakewood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
