Segerstrom found their leader in sophomore April Valenciano, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten assists. Valenciano is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 13 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jaida Cervantes, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cypress, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They claimed a resounding 64-19 win over Santa Ana. The Centurions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 43 points or more this season.
Cypress' win came from a few key players Segerstrom will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sarina Ulep Rodriguez, who posted ten points. Megan Phan also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
Cypress smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.
Segerstrom's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Cypress, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Segerstrom has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Cypress struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Segerstrom came up short against Cypress in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, falling 71-58. Thankfully for the Jaguars, Myia Collins (who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
