Mountain View extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 11-8. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Marshall Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 back in March.
RYAN MOLINAR put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, LUKE DAVILA made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was ALEX MORENO, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
As for Marshall, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-12. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games.
Like Mountain View, Marshall also got a great game from a two-way player: Elijah Lain. He struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Lain has posted since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Marshall is 5-2 when Lain posts two or more runs, but 3-10 otherwise.
Lain wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was David Ouch, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Mountain View didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-4 victory against El Monte on the 27th. As for Marshall, they will challenge Arroyo at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
