The Marshall Eagles will head out to face off against the Polytechnic Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marshall is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
Monrovia hit Marshall with a six-run second inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Wildcats, falling 16-3.
Elijah Lain made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those runs were his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Polytechnic had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Sage Hill 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since February 18, 2025.
Caiden Kennedy made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Kennedy was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Elijah Ip was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
The win was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Marshall, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Marshall was able to grind out a solid victory over Polytechnic in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, winning 9-4. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
