Baseball Recap: Mt. Pleasant Wins Going Away Against James Lick

Mt. Pleasant had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt James Lick on Thursday. The Cardinals blew past the Comets 8-2. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Nate Ortiz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bryan Lopez Rodriguez was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Joshua Santos also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Mt. Pleasant is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for James Lick, they dropped their record down to 4-9 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.
