The Westlake Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Colquitt County Packers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Westlake sitting on three straight victories and Colquitt County on 11.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Westlake walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 34-15 win over Marietta on Friday. Given Westlake's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Marietta is ranked 76th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Colquitt County stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 51-25 margin over Parkview. With Colquitt County ahead 34-10 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Colquitt County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Neko Fann led the charge by throwing for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Fann was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards. Day'shawn Brown was another key contributor, rushing for 118 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Colquitt County, adding 15 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Brett Fitzgerald: he added nine points with three field goals, and another six kicking extra points.
Westlake pushed their record up to 9-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.9 points per game. As for Colquitt County, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
Westlake beat Colquitt County 31-24 in their previous matchup back in August of 2021. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Colquitt County's A'marius "charlie" Pace, who rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 56 receiving yards.
