It's playoff time, and Hozho Academy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Raton Tigers on Saturday, sneaking past 49-47. Winning may never get old, but the Wolves sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
While passing duties were split, you can't argue with the impact Brandon Bonaguidi and Kaleb Bowannie both made on the game. Bonaguidi threw for 200 yards and four touchdowns while Bowannie gained 177 total yards. What's more, Bonaguidi posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September.
Raton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cael Walton, who rushed for 267 yards while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also picked up 57 receiving yards and one TD. Walton's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his eighth straight game with at least 108 rushing yards. Harlem Coley was another key back, rushing for 90 yards and four scores on only eight carries.
Hozho Academy's record is now 9-2. As for Raton, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-5.
Coming up, Hozho Academy will take on Texico at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Wolves will need to watch out since the Wolverines have now posted at least 31 points in their last six matchups. Raton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
