Basketball Game Preview: Troy Trojans vs. Sayre Redskins

The Troy Trojans will face off against the Sayre Redskins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Troy's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Sayre has been banged up by 17 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Last Friday, Troy took their match with ease, bagging a 71-30 victory over North Penn-Mansfield. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 23 points or more this season.

Troy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kailyn Sterling led the charge by going 5 of 10 on her way to 11 points along with eight boards and six assists. Sterling is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Giana Renzi was another key player, going 7 for 12 en route to 18 points.

Sterling wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Troy was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Sayre played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Canton and fell 59-31. The Redskins were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-12.

Troy will have to contain Abbie McGaughey as she made an impact in Sayre's last game. She posted 19 points and three blocks. The dominant performance gave McGaughey a new career-high in points.

Sayre's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Troy, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.

Everything came up roses for Troy against Sayre when the teams last played back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 60-19 victory. Does Troy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sayre turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
