Basketball Recap: Taft Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

Taft won the last time they faced Wasco and things went their way on Thursday too. The Taft Wildcats put the hurt on the Wasco Tigers with a sharp 59-36 win. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Shelby Gregory was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 27 points and 20 boards. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliet Woodards, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Taft smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Wasco lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Yareli Sanchez, who went 5-for-7 en route to 14 points along with five boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Victoria Carreno was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to 15 rebounds and six steals.

Taft has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points over those games. As for Wasco, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-13.

Taft has already played their next match, a 50-38 victory against Delano on the 11th. As for Wasco, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 75-29 defeat against Shafter on the 11th.
