Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Munster Mustangs, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a 59-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. Munster has struggled against the Indians recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Munster saw an underclassman step up: Gracyn Gilliard scored 28 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Gilliard is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 17 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cecilia Mason, who scored 15 points.
Lake Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aniyah Bishop out in front who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Bishop has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Vanessa Wimberly was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Munster's loss dropped their record down to 18-5. As for Lake Central, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 21-4.
Munster does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lake Central will face off against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Gary West Side will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 387th, while the Indians are ranked 15th).
