The Chestnut Ridge Lions had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 50-39 victory over Bellwood-Antis on Friday. The win was just what Chestnut Ridge needed coming off of a 57-18 defeat in their prior contest.
It was another big night for Ashlie Weaver, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Chestnut Ridge's points. Isabella Hillegass was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Despite the defeat, Bellwood-Antis saw an underclassman step up: Lilly Gerwert dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lainey Quick, who scored seven points.
Bellwood-Antis struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Chestnut Ridge's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Bellwood-Antis, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chestnut Ridge will take on Penn Cambria at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Penn Cambria has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 246 points over their last four matches. As for Bellwood-Antis, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Juniata Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Juniata Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 502nd, while Bellwood-Antis is ranked 236th).
