The Esperanza Aztecs waltzed into their match Friday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They wrapped up 2023 with a 52-38 win over Centennial.
Charlotte Muller was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Esperanza's points. Madilyn Lam was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine assists and seven rebounds.
Esperanza's victory bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Centennial, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.
Esperanza is on the road again on Saturday and play against Owyhee at 2:15 p.m. on December 30, 2023. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Owyhee is ranked 34th in Idaho, while Esperanza is ranked 21st in California). Centennial won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Emmett at 11:00 a.m. on December 30, 2023. Hopefully Emmett focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Friday.
