El Camino is 8-2 against Oceanside since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The El Camino Wildcats have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Oceanside Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th. Last Tuesday, everything came up roses for El Camino at home against San Pasqual as the team secured a 54-11 win.
El Camino got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aliyah Carter out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Carter scored 15 or more points. Justine Stewart was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Oceanside has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 34 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Valley Center 60-26 on the road. Given Oceanside's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while Valley Center is ranked 762nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Oceanside relied on the efforts of Aubrey Madden, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, and Martina Griffin, who scored 19 points along with seven steals. Madden set a new season high mark in blocks with four. Another player making a difference was Emily Johnson, who scored 12 points.
El Camino's victory ended a 15-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6. As for Oceanside, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: El Camino have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Oceanside, though, as they've been averaging only 39.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
