Union and St. Francis Borgia are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2015, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Union's win against Pacific wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats skirted past the Indians 6-5. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Evie Poggas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ali Thwing, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Keely Otto, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither St. Francis Borgia nor Washington made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Knights had just enough and edged out the Bluejays 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since September 18, 2024.
Union's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for St. Francis Borgia, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Union has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Francis Borgia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Union beat St. Francis Borgia 6-1 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
