The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts waltzed into their match Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Rincon/University by a score of 49-41. This was payback for Mica Mountain, who suffered a 49-48 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Mica Mountain's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kayla Mathie, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Mathie pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Isabella Webb, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Several Rangers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leila O'Dowd, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. O'Dowd scored a full 29.3% of Rincon/University's points, the 12th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sabrina Wexler was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Mica Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Rincon/University, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.
Mica Mountain will head out on the road to face off against Canyon del Oro at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rincon/University won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Catalina Foothills at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Catalina Foothills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Monday.
