The Fairfield Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the Armijo Royals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Fairfield is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Armijo in California (Fairfield is ranked 520th, while Armijo is ranked 1239th).
Even though Fairfield has not done well against Rodriguez recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Fairfield managed a 43-38 victory over Rodriguez. The win was just what Fairfield needed coming off of a 81-28 defeat in their prior matchup.
Fairfield found their leader in underclassman Mariah Giron, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Giron has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mayana Williams, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Armijo's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Wood, falling 86-23. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Armijo has suffered yet this season.
Fairfield has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Armijo, they bumped their record down to 2-12 with that loss, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Fairfield beat Armijo 43-31 in their previous matchup back in February of 2020. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairfield since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
