Ventura is on a 18-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Camarillo is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Ventura Cougars will take on the Camarillo Scorpions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ventura will be strutting in after a victory while Camarillo will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Thursday, Ventura was able to grind out a solid win over Oxnard, taking the game 54-43. Ventura pushed the score to 47-22 by the end of the third, a deficit Oxnard cut but never quite recovered from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ventura to victory, but perhaps none more so than Skyler Knight, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Knight has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times she's played. Kailee Staniland was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six assists.
Meanwhile, Camarillo pushed their score all the way to 57 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Oak Park 61-57. Camarillo has struggled against Oak Park recently, as their match on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Emerson Martin, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Christa Contreras, who scored 14 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Ventura has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. As for Camarillo, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-7.
Ventura was dealt a bruising 60-30 loss at the hands of Camarillo when the teams last played back in May of 2021. Thankfully for Ventura, Gabriela Jaquez (who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
