On Friday, The Eldorado Golden Eagles faced the West Mesa Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Eldorado received a tough blow as they fell 39-21 to West Mesa. Eldorado lost against West Mesa in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 34-8 score last time.
Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Johnpaul Ludi, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Another player making a difference was Josiah Mitchell, who picked up 123 receiving yards and a touchdown.
It was another big night for Elijah Brody, who rushed for 201 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Brody is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Sharp, who gained 135 total yards and a touchdown.
Eldorado has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for West Mesa, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.
Eldorado does not have any more games scheduled as of now. West Mesa will head out on the road to face off against Rio Rancho at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Rio Rancho is ranked 14th, while West Mesa is ranked 16th).
