Two dominant guards in Roxana Fernandez and Riley Walden are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Arvin Bears will be playing at home against the Tehachapi Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Arvin waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Mira Monte, posting a 62-18 victory on the road. Given Arvin's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 570th, while Mira Monte is ranked 1261st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Arvin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Fernandez, who scored 13 points along with seven assists. Another player making a difference was Emily Soto, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Tehachapi came tearing into Monday's contest with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 60-24 win over East Bakersfield on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Tehachapi has posted since December 14, 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tehachapi to victory, but perhaps none more so than Walden, who scored 18 points along with six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Perkins, who scored 13 points along with six steals and four blocks.
Arvin's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Tehachapi, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.
Arvin lost to Tehachapi at home by a decisive 58-40 margin in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Arvin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
