Northwestern hasn't had much luck against Flowers recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jaguars at 11:00 a.m. Northwestern has given up an average of 15 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Northwestern is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They came up short against Bowie, falling 16-0.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Flowers). They were the clear victors by a 30-8 margin over Laurel on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Jaguars considering their two-run performance the game before.
Jonathan Davis was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marcus Richardson, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3.
Flowers always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .638. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Flowers is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Northwestern, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northwestern has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Flowers struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
