Given Miller School of Albemarle's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked tenth in Virginia, while Cape Fear Academy is ranked 106th in North Carolina), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Miller School of Albemarle's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jason Clarke led the charge by scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The match was Clarke's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Reece Hagy, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Cape Fear Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Gups Clucas and Kareem Anderson. Clucas scored five points, while Anderson scored six points. Clucas continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Cape Fear Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Miller School of Albemarle pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
The win was the third in a row for Miller School of Albemarle, bringing their record for this year to 7-2. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 30.67 points. As for Cape Fear Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.
