The St. Francis Sharks waltzed into their match on Tuesday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They came out on top against Marina by a score of 53-44. Given St. Francis' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 446th, while Marina is ranked 1055th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Francis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maya Calfee, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Calfee has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aaliysah Gomez, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
St. Francis pushed their record up to 14-2 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for Marina, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Notre Dame the next time they take the court. St. Francis will head out to face Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Marina will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
