Basketball Game Preview: New Castle Trojans vs. Greenfield-Central Cougars

The New Castle Trojans will take on the Greenfield-Central Cougars at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Greenfield-Central is hoping to do what Connersville couldn't on Saturday: put an end to New Castle's winning streak, which now stands at three games. New Castle came out on top against Connersville by a score of 56-47.

New Castle's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Landon Thompson, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine boards, and Mason Miller, who posted 23 points. The matchup was Thompson's third in a row with at least ten points.

Meanwhile, Greenfield-Central faced Mt. Vernon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Greenfield-Central managed a 60-55 victory over Mt. Vernon. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

New Castle better keep an eye on Braylon Mullins. He was instrumental in Greenfield-Central's win, almost dropping a double-double on 34 points and nine boards. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Mullins has scored at least a third of Greenfield-Central's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Johnson, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

New Castle's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-7. As for Greenfield-Central, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

New Castle might still be hurting after the 70-50 defeat they got from Greenfield-Central in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mullins, who went 10 of 14 on his way to 26 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
