The Independence Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Lake Dallas Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Independence will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 835th, while Lake Dallas is ranked 156th).
Independence fell victim to Argyle's stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 63-0 loss at the hands of the Eagles. Independence was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Meanwhile, even though Emerson scored an imposing 35 points on Friday, Lake Dallas still came out on top. Lake Dallas pulled ahead with a 36-35 photo finish over Emerson. The win was just what Lake Dallas needed coming off of a 52-21 defeat in their prior matchup.
Lake Dallas relied on the efforts of Cade Bortnem, who threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns, and Keonde Henry, who picked up 77 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Lake Dallas also got a significant boost from Dylan Brauchle, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.
This is the second loss in a row for Independence and nudges their season record down to 1-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 0.0 points per game. As for Lake Dallas, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
Independence didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Lake Dallas in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 19-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Independence since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
