Hug is 0-7 against South Tahoe since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hug Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the South Tahoe Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Hug will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 90th in Nevada, while South Tahoe is ranked 34th in California).
Hug suffered their biggest loss since November 25, 2023 on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against North Valleys, falling 65-16. Hug was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-9.
Meanwhile, South Tahoe can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game on Wednesday. They blew past Truckee 60-40. South Tahoe pushed the score to 53-28 by the end of the third, a deficit Truckee cut but never quite recovered from.
It was another big night for Campbell Mathews, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ava Wolfe, who scored ten points along with four steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Hug and nudges their season record down to 1-13. As for South Tahoe, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season.
Hug was taken down by South Tahoe 60-16 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can Hug avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
