After a string of five wins, the Pleasant Valley Vikings's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chico. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Pleasant Valley came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Chico is ranked 145th).
Chico found their leader in underclassman Corrina Stephens, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 21 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stephens has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylee Clements, who scored ten points.
Pleasant Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Chico, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pleasant Valley will take on Red Bluff at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Red Bluff is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Chico, they will head out on the road to square off against Shasta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Shasta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday.
