Khatchikian's total broke the state record while his brother
Dylan Khatchikian may have tied a national record by dishing out 35 assists.
According to Sondheimer's report, Khatchikian played just 22 minutes in the lopsided contest that was 79-0 at the half.
The previous state record for points in a single game was held by Tigran Gigorian, who scored 100 points in 2003 while also playing for Mesrobian.
A box score from the game indicates Khatchikian was 48 of 60 from the field, including 3 of 6 from beyond the 3-point arc, and 3 of 4 from the free throw line. Brother Dylan did not score but was credited with a triple-double of 35 assists, 15 rebounds and 13 steals.
According to the
MaxPreps National High School Basketball Record Book, Khatchikian's 102-point effort is tied with Ed Vondra of East Butler (Neb.) in 1922 and Bennie Fuller of the Arkansas School for the Deaf (Ark.) in 1971 for No. 13 on the single-game scoring list.
Khatchikian came into Thursday's contest averaging 28.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 4.7 steals and 3.3 assists on the season. The 6-foot-2 guard received an offer from Division I High Point University last year.
Mesrobian improves to 10-6 on the season with seven games remaining in regular season play.
