Basketball Recap: Northern Guilford Skates Past Western Guilford with Ease + How To Watch

Northern Guilford had lost four games on the road dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 3-2 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They claimed a resounding 74-37 victory over the Western Guilford Hornets. The Nighthawks' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading Northern Guilford to victory were Leena McField and Aliyah Settle. McField dropped a double-double with 25 points and 14 boards, while Settle shot 56% from the field on her way to 23 points and three steals. The matchup was McField's fifth in a row with at least 25 points. Anaya Pearley was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds.

Northern Guilford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January.

As for Western Guilford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Northern Guilford, East Forsyth, and Northern Guilford.

When it comes to explaining why Western Guilford lost, don't look at Payton Wood. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points along with five boards and three steals. Aamil Brooks also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northern Guilford will welcome East Forsyth at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 28.4 points per game this season, so the Nighthawks' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Western Guilford, they will be playing in front of their home fans against High Point Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
