Last Tuesday, Cleveland took a serious blow against St. Mary's Academy, falling 75-34. Cleveland was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-11.
The losing side was boosted by Valerie Anzora, who scored 14 points along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Anzora is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Calderon, who scored 6 points.
Meanwhile, Kennedy was able to grind out a solid win over Taft two weeks ago, taking the game 45-35. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Kennedy.
Kennedy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leilani Richards, who scored 10 points. Another player making a difference was Magdalena Paloma, who scored 9 points.
Cleveland now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Kennedy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Cleveland haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 0 turnovers per game. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 0 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
