The Metlakatla Chiefs came tearing into Saturday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on Wrangell with a sharp 54-34 win. Metlakatla has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season.
Metlakatla can attribute much of their success to Lexi Cook, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Cook pulled down eight or more rebounds. Ryley Booth was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
When it comes to explaining why Wrangell lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aubrey Wynne. Despite the final result, she scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Harrison, who scored seven points.
Metlakatla's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. As for Wrangell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Metlakatla and Haines will face off on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
