The Orcutt Academy Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Nipomo Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Orcutt Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Orcutt Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took down Righetti 77-61. Orcutt Academy pushed the score to 64-41 by the end of the third, a deficit Righetti cut but never quite recovered from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Orcutt Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elizabeth Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 25 rebounds. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. Ashley Barrientos was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten assists.
Meanwhile, Nipomo's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Tuesday after their 12th straight defeat. They were beaten by Righetti 70-27. While losing is never fun, Nipomo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 913th, while Righetti is ranked 237th).
The victory got Orcutt Academy back to even at 12-12. As for Nipomo, their loss dropped their record down to 3-20.
Orcutt Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Nipomo in their previous meeting back in January, winning 50-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Orcutt Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
