The Verdugo Hills Dons lost against the Arleta Mustangs back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Verdugo Hills fell to the Mustangs 32-28. Verdugo Hills has not had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Verdugo Hills lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Rayleen Castanos, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Amiyya Castanos was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two blocks.
It was another big night for Aaliyah Serpas, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds for Arleta. Serpas hasn't dropped below two steals for 19 straight games. Another player making a difference was Victoria Eufracio, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Verdugo Hills' loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-11. As for Arleta, they pushed their record up to 15-10 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Verdugo Hills will take on the Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Monroe is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Arleta, they will be playing at home against the Barristers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Marshall will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 807th, while the Mustangs are ranked 379th).
