Two dominant guards in Kailyn Sterling and Haley Litzelman are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Troy Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the North Penn-Liberty Mountie at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Troy will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Troy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 50-49 win over Williamson.
Troy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sterling, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Katie Lackey, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, a fact North Penn-Liberty proved on Friday. They came out on top against Sayre by a score of 44-34. The victory made it back-to-back wins for North Penn-Liberty.
North Penn-Liberty can attribute much of their success to Kendall Graham, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds, and Tierney Patterson, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Patterson has scored all season. Litzelman was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
Troy's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.6 points per game. As for North Penn-Liberty, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-9.
Troy came up short against the Mountie when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 54-48. Can Troy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
