Eagle is 2-7 against Rocky Mountain since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mustangs will face off against the Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Eagle is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Timberline, who was ranked third at the time (Eagle was ranked fifth). The Mustangs fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 35-33 last Friday. The loss was the Mustangs' first of the season.
Despite the defeat, Eagle got top-tier performance from NOAH BURNHAM, who rushed for 152 yards and a pair of scores, and also picked up 51 receiving yards. AUSTIN RAMSEY was another key player, throwing for 151 yards and two TDs.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Rocky Mountain walked away with it. They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 38-8 win over the Storm. Considering the Grizzlies have won six games by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Rocky Mountain's win came from a few key players Eagle will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Oakley Baxter, who rushed for 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Rasean Jones, who gained 90 total yards and two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Rocky Mountain was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 300 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 195 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.
Rocky Mountain pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.9 points over those games. As for Eagle, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Eagle has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 223.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Rocky Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 299.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Eagle was dealt a bruising 38-0 defeat at the hands of Rocky Mountain in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Mustangs, Taeshaun Reese (who picked up 65 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 41 yards and one TD) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
