Given Bakersfield Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while Independence is ranked 701st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bakersfield Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava King, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. King is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. Destiny Francies was another key contributor, scoring four points along with nine steals and seven rebounds.
Independence's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaylynn Bolden, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Olivia Fletcher who scored 15 points along with eight steals. Bolden is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauryn Sheppard, who scored six points.
Bakersfield Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Bakersfield Christian will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Immanuel at 11:30 a.m. on January 27th. As for Independence, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Bakersfield at 6:30 p.m.
