Baseball Recap: Downey Gets the Win

The Downey Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Ontario Christian Knights on Tuesday.

Ozzy De La Cruz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Eddie Causley was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Roel Mercedes, who went 1-for-3 with three runs.

Downey's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Ontario Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-7.

Downey has already played their next game (against Glendora), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Ontario Christian, they will host Diamond Bar at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Brahmas' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
