Williamson (Mobile) became the first Alabama school to score 100 points in a game in 75 years when it blanked Murphy (Mobile) 100-0 on Friday.
Leading 73-0 at halftime, Williamson coach Antonio Coleman
told AL.com that he asked for a running clock, but was rebuffed.
"I wanted to run the clock," Coleman told the news outlet. "I asked the ref. He said OK. He asked me if I had a problem going to eight minutes. I said no. He went to ask (Murphy coach) Sherman (Williams), and he said he didn't want to run the clock."
Williamson put up 27 more in the second half to reach the century mark with reserves. Quarterback
Alvin Dinkins accounted for eight Williamson touchdowns, all coming in the first half.
"He shook my hand," Coleman said of Williams. "I really don't understand what was happening. I had a conversation with my principal, and she didn't understand either. They finally started running the clock in the fourth quarter. I was just trying to get out of the game. I never experienced anything like that. It's a first-time deal for me. I didn't want anyone to get hurt."
Williamson moved to 6-0 and has outscored opponents 311-14. Murphy, which has been outscored 308-12, drops to 0-6 under first-year coach Williams.
It's the 19th time in state history a team has scored 100 or more and the first since 1970 when
Keith (Orrville) beat Alabama Industrial 122-0. Langdale and
Hamilton have each scored 125 points in a game (the most in state history), but those were in 1925 and 1915, respectively.
