While it was all tied up 22-22 at halftime, the Boyertown Bears were not quite the Upper Merion Area Vikings's equal in the second half on Thursday. Boyertown fell 58-45 to Upper Merion Area. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Boyertown came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Upper Merion Area is ranked 508th).
Boyertown's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jack Greaves, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds, and Trey Kern who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. The match was Kern's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Brant Rath was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds.
Boyertown has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season. As for Upper Merion Area, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Boyertown will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Whitehall at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Upper Merion Area will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Phoenixville at 6:45 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
