Two dominant signal callers in Joseph Mesa and Jassi Williams are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Paraclete Spirits will head out to face off against the St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Paraclete is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Bishop Alemany: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Spirits blew the Warriors out of the water with a 49-6 final score. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Spirits' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 101st, while the Warriors are ranked 393rd).

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Paraclete's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. They got some further help from Darren Coleman: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made five total tackles.
Meanwhile, St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-15 win over St. Francis. That 27 point margin sets a new team best for the Warriors this season.
Paraclete better keep an eye on Tyreq Conley. He was instrumental in St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's win, rushing for 99 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Francisco (June) Meza Jr. made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Gregory Taylor and Meza Jr. were the leaders of the group effort as each produced two apiece. Meza Jr. got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The victory made it two in a row for Paraclete and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 20 points in those games. As for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Paraclete has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 153.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 95.3 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Paraclete came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, sneaking past 30-28. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Warriors' Williams, who rushed for 145 yards and a pair of scores on only 15 carries, and also threw for 183 yards and one TD. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Spirits still be able to contain Williams? There's only one way to find out.
