The Pomona Red Devils suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Monday. They took a serious blow against Garey, falling 67-21. While losing is never fun, Pomona can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1166th, while Garey is ranked 550th).
Garey's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Armani Owens led the charge by dropping a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Owens is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Alyssa Herrera was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Pomona and nudges their season record down to 3-7. As for Garey, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 18-4.
Pomona will head out on the road to take on La Puente at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Garey, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Edgewood at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Edgewood is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
