This season hasn't been kind to the Girard College Cavaliers, who are still winless after their sixth matchup. They fell 35-23 to Mastery on Wednesday. Girard College was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mastery apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the defeat, Girard College had strong showings from Autumn Crosby, who scored 18 points along with three steals and three blocks, and Celise Purnell, who scored three points along with six rebounds and five steals. Crosby scored a full 78.3% of Girard College's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Girard College bumped their record down to 0-6 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.8 points per game. As for Mastery, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Girard College will play host again and welcome Germantown Friends, where tip off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Germantown Friends presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Girard College in Pennsylvania (Germantown Friends is ranked 142nd, while Girard College is ranked 436th). Mastery will be home for the holidays to greet New Foundations at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
