Jeannette is 0-9 against Riverview since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Jeannette Jayhawks will head out on the road to take on the Riverview Raiders at 12:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Jeannette has not done well against Leechburg recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Jeannette secured a 35-31 W over Leechburg. The victory was just what Jeannette needed coming off of a 64-25 loss in their prior contest.
It was another big night for Venicia Vignoli, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Adriana Allison, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Riverview stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 50-25 margin over Monessen. The victory was familiar territory for Riverview who now have three in a row.
Riverview got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Isabel Chaparro out in front who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Katerina Tsambis, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Riverview's lineup was just a bit different on Saturday as Blake Huffman got a bit more time on the court (26 vs. her season average of 8.47). Huffman made the most of the opportunity, scoring five points. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
The victory got Jeannette back to even at 8-8. As for Riverview, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5.
Saturday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Allison and Lola Abraham. Allison has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 11.7 points, 3.8 steals, and 5.8 rebounds. For her part, Abraham has averaged 10.9 points, 5.3 steals, and 3.7 assists.
Jeannette came up short against Riverview in their previous matchup back in January, falling 36-26. Can Jeannette avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
