Helix hasn't had much luck against Granite Hills recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Highlanders will face off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Helix is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Helix proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their pitchers stepped up to hand University City a 2-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Highlanders have posted since March 10th.
Helix's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jake Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Granite Hills). They blew past Torrey Pines 11-1 on Thursday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.
Scott Russell looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brenden Lewis was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Phillip Jones also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Granite Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Granite Hills pushed their record up to 8-0-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Helix, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Helix hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Granite Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Helix couldn't quite finish off Granite Hills when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Highlanders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
