Vista Murrieta found their leader in underclassman Alyssa Newby, who made all 6 shots she took from beyond the arc racking up 26 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Newby has scored all season. Jordyn Smith was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
Despite the defeat, Murrieta Valley saw an underclassman step up: Valerie Lauritzen scored 25 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Lauritzen has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Axene, who scored 11 points.
Vista Murrieta's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-16. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Murrieta Valley, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-9.
Vista Murrieta will head out on the road to challenge Murrieta Mesa at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vista Murrieta knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Murrieta Mesa likes a good challenge. As for Murrieta Valley, they will be playing at home against Chaparral at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Murrieta Valley is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51 points per game this season.
