This season hasn't been kind to the Maricopa Indians, who are still winless after their fourth contest. They took a 22-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Shandon on Friday. Maricopa lost against Shandon in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 50-10 score last time.
Aby Beltran and Emma Quilliams certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Beltran dropped a double-double on 10 rebounds and 13 steals, while Quilliams scored 2 points along with 14 rebounds and 6 steals. Beltran is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Shandon can attribute much of their success to Yelene Segura, who scored 14 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Granados, who scored 4 points along with 4 steals.
Maricopa bumped their record down to 0-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Shandon, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Valley Christian Academy the next time they take the court. Shandon will host Valley Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Maricopa will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
