On Monday, Saint Joseph was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 46-42 to Geffen Academy. Saint Joseph has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Saint Joseph lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Leah Zabukovac, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Zabukovac continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Velonza, who scored 11 points.
Saint Joseph has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Geffen Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saint Joseph on the road again on Thursday and play against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Geffen Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against California Academy of Math & Science at 4:30 p.m. on January 16th. California Academy of Math & Science is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
