The Hillsdale FIGHTING KNIGHTS will face off against the Woodside Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hillsdale's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Woodside's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Last Monday, Hillsdale beat San Mateo 7-4. The win continues a trend for the FIGHTING KNIGHTS in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won eight in a row.
The team relied heavily on Jake Belloni, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Bonner, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Woodside got the win against Summit Shasta on Wednesday by a conclusive 13-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Cruz Torres made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Torres was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Carter Ball looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Trent Amoroso was incredible, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4. He has become a key player for Woodside: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Diego Perez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Woodside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Summit Shasta only posted a batting average of .310.
The victory got Woodside back to even at 3-3. As for Hillsdale, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hillsdale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Woodside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
