The Desert Mountain Wolves will take on the Horizon Huskies at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Desert Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
In Thursday's Canine Competition, Desert Mountain had to take the L. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Campo Verde on Thursday. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
James Campbell made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Horizon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Chaparral, sneaking past 6-5. The win was nothing new for the Huskies as they're now sitting on four straight.
Jack Bolton looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Weber, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Bennett Beyer, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Horizon's victory bumped their record up to 10-15. As for Desert Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 15-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Desert Mountain hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Horizon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Desert Mountain beat Horizon 8-3 in their previous matchup back in March. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Huskies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
