Baseball Game Preview: Portola Bulldogs vs. St. Margaret's Tartans

For the second straight game, Portola will face off against St. Margaret. Portola will venture away from home to take on St. Margaret's at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Portola is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on St. Margaret's with a sharp 15-1 victory on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-run performance the match before.

Yoshi Tsuge was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Portola: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Keyan Park was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Portola's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Marinelli, who scored three runs while going 2-for-5.

Portola was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Portola is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. St. Margaret's is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
